Practical results, no duplication

There is no other research institute in Manitoba, and few others in the world focused on chronic disease management and prevention like CDIC. Most medical research focuses on finding a cure through pharmacological treatment or genetic testing. CDIC research is primarily about sophisticated data analysis to predict risk, and to model and evaluate improved processes and treatment.

A solid organization with a sustainable plan.

Researchers at the Seven Oaks Hospital Chronic Disease Innovation Centre are affiliated with the University of Manitoba; however, the CDIC is governed by a volunteer board appointed by Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation. It is integrated with the operation of Seven Oaks Hospital and the Wellness Institute but as an independent non-profit organization.

A capital campaign is underway to fund the space and infrastructure for a next generation space that will promote imagination, collaboration and discussion.

Researchers will continue to secure and hold university-based public interest research grants, but the research team will also be deployed to take on clinical trials for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, including after-market effectiveness studies.

CDIC will broaden its focus and expand its operation based on revenues from clinical trials and contracts. It also plans to continue to develop new medical devices and processes for deploying technology for healthcare delivery together with business that will fund future discovery.

We continue to expand our work, benefiting from a rich base for testing and implementing innovative programs and services. CDIC endeavors to:

  • Improve health, healthcare and well being of our patients
  • Spur innovation that reduces healthcare costs
  • Bring new healthcare product and technologies to market
  • Provide local, national and international reach
  • Unite experts from healthcare, research, academic, medical device and business sectors

CDIC’s aggressive commercialization agenda is well underway with numerous contracts secured with medical device, technology and pharmaceutical companies, and additional contracts in negotiation.

Meet Our Researchers

CDIC currently has three gifted principal investigators who are Nephrologists (Kidney specialists) working for the Manitoba Renal Program at Seven Oaks General Hospital. They are supported by a team of research staff, as well as other medical staff who act as catalysts to the research being completed at the CDIC.
