Winnipeg Innovation Centre Wins International Business Award
Seven Oaks Hospital Chronic Disease Innovation Centre has been selected as the winner of a Business Excellence Award by the Canada China Business Council.
The Outstanding Small-Medium Enterprise award was presented last week to Seven Oaks Hospital Chronic Disease Innovation Centre (CDIC) for the innovative inclusion of China in their company’s growth and overall business strategy. CDIC is a non-profit organization that supports medical research in Winnipeg and operates an international division known as Canada Wellness Institute.
In 2015, technical experts from Wellness Institute at Seven Oaks General Hospital were deployed to develop and co-manage a new facility in Rizhao City, Shandong, China based on the 80,000 square foot medical fitness operated by Seven Oaks in Winnipeg.
The multi-year partnership with a hospital and city development corporation in China has included design, management and staff training, as well as ongoing support to adapt the Wellness Institute business, clinical and operating model for China.
CDIC is continuing its work with the Rizhao pilot site which has already expanded once and is in discussion with hospitals in other parts of China to create additional facilities. In the meantime CWI is training Chinese healthcare providers in chronic disease management and prevention.
CDIC, which was previously selected for a Spirit of Winnipeg Business Innovation award by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, is honoured to receive this new award presented by CCBC Chair and noted Canadian business leader Peter Kruyt and Wang Wentian, Charge d’affaires Chinese Embassy in Canada.
“We hope this will help finalize some new opportunities in China,” said Wellness Institute Executive Director Casie Nishi. “We’ve been taking our time to make sure we have the right partners and plan for growth without losing focus on our current operation in Winnipeg.”
The Canada China Business Council is a bilateral non-profit organization with six offices in Canada and China. The biannual Business Excellence Awards recognize companies that have deepened ties with China and achieved excellent results over the past two years. A complete list of award nominees and winners is available on the CCBC website.
